According to a Gallup poll, 85.8 per cent of tourists said that Tahiti would be a more attractive holiday destination if casinos were built on the country's islands.
Onlytahiti.com reports that only 14.2 per cent of people surveyed said that casinos would not encourage them to travel to Tahiti.
Of those polled 61 per cent said that their favourite entertainment at casinos were the table games, such as roulette, poker and blackjack, while 39 per cent said they preferred the slot machines.
Over 45 per cent of the gamblers said they would prefer to stay at a hotel resort whilst on their trip with just over 26 per cent saying they'd rather stay at a smaller guesthouse. A little over 28 per cent of people would be more likely to use a casino on an ocean liner, as they preferred cruise trips.
This news comes as Bora Bora, located 70 miles from Tahiti, was voted the "sexiest island in the world" in Forbes magazine and after French Polynesia Tourism Minister Maina Sage publicly said in April that she would support the opening "well-structured" casinos in Tahiti.
Onlytahiti.com said: "The creation of casinos can only enhance the economy of Polynesia by providing jobs, add a very entertaining and lucrative avenue to these islands."
