Goldberg has mixed fortune at WSOP

Fred Goldberg has just won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, taking home $204,935 for his victory in the $1,500 buy-in Mixed Hold'em event.

The 31-year-old from Hollywood has finally bagged a WSOP bracelet, which he could not achieve last year although he finished tenth and netted $1,154,527 for his efforts at WSOP 2006's main event.

As many as 620 poker players entered the field playing half Limit Hold'em and half No-Limit Hold'em in rotation in an attempt to cash in on some of the $846,300 prizepool.

Goldberg's triumph was somewhat surprising as although he specialises in No-Limit Hold'em, he had never played live limit poker before this event. Perhaps then, unsurprisingly he found himself down to just 400 in his chip stack at one point.

However, when Goldberg won event 40, it was his fourth time to cash in on the WSOP.

Denmark's Rene Mouritsen came in second place winning $125,895 while Germany's Christoph Niesert bagged $82,804 for third.

Two former WSOP gold bracelet champions who cashed in were Jeffrey Lisandro who came in 18th and 'Miami John' Cernuto who could only achieve 54th place.
