Poker author bags WSOP bracelet

Blair Rodman, a longtime professional poker player and author on the game has won his first ever World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet, after winning a seat on a final table for the twelfth time in his career.

At event 47, a $2,000 buy-in No Limit Teaxas Hold'em competition, Rodman took home prize money of $707,898 after beating Amato Galasso after a three-hour Heads-Up which saw see-sawing chip leads between the two players. Galasso then pocketed $448,808 in what was his first ever live poker tournament cash.

Rodman, who lives in Las Vegas, has been participating in the WSOP since 1982 and also gambles on golf, other sports, and poker in a professional gaming career. The 53-year-old is also playing on the Ultimate Blackjack Tour and in the past he co-wrote the book Kill Phil, which is a guide to counter-strategies that could be used to beat some of the best poker pros in the world.

It was only by a quirk of fate that Rodman attended this event, which he nearly missed due to an exhaustingly late finish in the Omaha High-Low tournament on the previous day.

"I got eliminated on late on the second day in Omaha," Rodman explained in a post-tournament interview. "I almost didn't play. If I would not have been knocked out of that Omaha High-Low event, I would not have been here. So, I guess getting busted in that event was a good thing!"

Meanwhile other famous poker faces who cashed in include 21-year-old Anna Wroblewski who finished fourth place and former European Player of the Year, Roland de Wolfe, who placed sixth.
