Hellmuth suffers racecar crash

Poker legend Phil Hellmuth has been involved in a crash, after the promotional race car he was driving crashed into a cinderblock barrier at 172 mph.

After testing the 200 mph vehicle in the Nevada desert, family members were called to the scene of a promotional event at the Rio Hotel and Casino car park on Sunday, when the poker star lost control of the vehicle as he was pulling in.

A video of the crash was posted on RawVegas.tv, which showed a shocked but otherwise relatively unharmed Hellmuth emerging from the written off vehicle. It has been confirmed that the car's airbags did deploy and Hellmuth took a trip to the local hospital for a check up.

"He should never have been behind the wheel of that death trap," a witness told Gambling911 website. "The brakes appeared to have failed. Either that or he is going blind!"

There have been rumours on some gambling sites that it may have just been a publicity stunt, as Hellmuth was spotted leaving his hotel looking in fine fettle after the incident.

However, it remains to be seen whether the poker ace will be well enough to meet the challenge of adding a 12th World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet to his jewellery collection at this year's Main Event.
