Rookie Graves Takes Home WSOP Bracelet

A member of Bodog.com’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) team triumphed over 1,048 other players last week to take home a preliminary event bracelet.

Preliminary event 55 was a $1,000 buy-in with re-buys and Team Bodog’s Michael Graves had to start again four times before making his way to the final table to win his first WSOP bracelet and the $742,121 that came with it.

Graves is a recent graduate of Brown University and will be attending Texas-South Western medical school in the autumn. The final phase of the event saw Texan Graves heads up against Theo Tran, another young player who has shown promise in seven tournament clashes this year including first place at the 2007 LA Poker Classic. Tran is also the World Series of Checkers reigning champion and took home $387,193 for his second place finish.

It has been a great start for Team Bodog at the WSOP as Graves joins seven other team-mates who have finished in the money. The online poker site said that, before Graves, its team members had won $323,110 before the WSOP Main Event had even started.

The Main Event started Friday and first-timer Graves has joined Bodog’s other rookie players in finishing in the money. Fellow rookie, 22-year-old online qualifier Yuval ‘yuvee04’ Bronshtein, made his first final table recently, finishing 3rd to win $109,018, while Justin ‘jciour74’ Bonomo, only 21, showed his potential with an early fourth place finish in the competition and going deep in the prestigious $50K H.O.R.S.E. event last week.
