Mizrachi Wins WSOP Pot Limit Omaha Event

Robert Mizrachi has won $768,889 and taken the Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) crown. The game is known in some circles as the PLO World Championships, and like the main event has a $10,000 buy-in. Omaha is popular all over the world as well as being favoured by many pros. It is just like Texas Hold’em except that each player is dealt four hole cards instead of two. When declaring a hand at the end of the game, only two of these four can be used.

This is 28-year-old Mizrachi’s first WSOP bracelet, despite his having played competitive poker for a number of years. Robert should not be confused with his brother Michael ‘the Grinder’ Mizrachi, who, despite being one of the most successful players of the last five years, has no WSOP title to his name.

The Mizrachi brothers were taught to play poker by their mother, who made sure they learned all its variants. The H.O.R.S.E tournament cycles through a number of these, and Robert has two H.O.R.S.E final tables on his WSOP CV, to which he has added five cashes in the last two weeks, giving him a chance at the coveted player of the year title.

Sadly a tie with Phil Hellmuth for a record 11th bracelet eluded Doyle Brunson, who was eliminated in 6th place, winning $123,967. Rene Mouritsen was second, after a heads-up game lasting only fifteen hands. He won $464,877 and Patrik Antonius came third taking $311,394.
