Rodman Wins $2K NL Hold’em as Doyle Brunson Chases Record

The final table of the World Championship Pot-Limit Omaha (Event 50) game could see Doyle Brunson equal Phil Hellmuth’s record 11 WSOP bracelets.

The chip counts at the start of play will be:

1. Tommy Ly 1,895,000

2. Robert Mizrachi 1,090,000.

3. Rene Mouritsen 775,000

4. Patrik Antonius 650,000

5. Doyle Brunson 510,000

6. Jonas Flug-Entin 445,000

7. Marco Traniello 420,000

8. Stephen Ladowsky 360,000

9. Steve Sung 175,000

While he has only just over a quarter of the chip leader’s collateral, 74-year-old Brunson could see a huge position change if he took out Flug-Entin, Traniello or Ladowsky. As a high-stakes cash game player, Brunson has made a friend of pressure, but with pride on the table, some extra edge is expected.

As they say, all it takes is ‘a chip and a chair’, and Blair Rodman won the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event from 6th place at the start of the final table. Despite being a veteran of the poker circuit, this was his first WSOP win, earning him $707,898. Rodman is a professional gambler and has made nearly $4m during his career. Like Brunson, Rodman also has a degree in business and benefits from a philosophical attitude. He said, “I almost didn’t play. If I would not have been knocked out of that Omaha High-Low event, I would not have been here. So, I guess getting busted in that event was a good thing.”
