Zapote, Costa Rica, 25 February 2004)-Baltimore Ravens running back, Jamal Lewis, who had the second-highest rushing total in NFL history last season, was just as shocked as the nation of sports, when Federal drug charges came down on him today. The indictment accuses Lewis of helping arrange a drug deal involving cocaine in the summer of 2000. Lewis is expected to turn himself in to authorities on Thursday.
'Jamal Lewis completely denies any criminal activity and is shocked and saddening by the charges against him,' said Lewis' attorney, Ed Garland. Garland feels that there is someone, currently incarcerated, who is giving the police information regarding the case, and he is unsure of whether the informant is doing so because there is substance to the charges, or is attempting to get a reduced sentence for himself. Garland also said that he and Lewis were aware that there was an ongoing investigation regarding the matter, but he was fairly confident that there would be no charges filed against his client.

Lewis is charged with conspiring to possess, with the intent to distribute 5 kilograms of cocaine, and using a cell phone in the commission of the first count.
