Prison Gambling Cell Probe

Slacking prison wardens and other employees caused shock when the extent of their non-work activities was revealed. The revelations follow a state Department of Corrections’ Special Investigation Division investigation lasting several weeks.

Activities uncovered include a baby shower on prison grounds and a prison poker room, mainly used by shift workers, complete with tables and chips, and hosting up to twelve players.

However, it may be that these allegations and revelations are all politicking due to a dispute between officers unions and the prison Warden Karen Balicki. The complaint was instigated by union leader Lou Hall, a recently retired lieutenant at Bayside State Prison in nearby Maurice River Township.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Deidre Fedkenheuer revealed that she did not know all the details of the poker room, but stated that, ‘Staffing at the highest and lowest levels is something we’re concerned about.’
