Monday 23rd July 2007 Support for Online Poker Alliance Grows
The Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), Alfonse D’Amato, has announced that the organisation has accomplished much over the past six months.
The PPA is an American nonprofit interest group formed to ‘to speak with one voice to promote poker, ensure its integrity, and, most importantly, to protect the players' rights’. It serves as an advocacy group in Washington DC to establish rights and protections for US poker players and to protect their right to play online.
“We have accomplished so much in so little time,” said the former New York Senator in a statement issued Thursday.
“Our membership has grown more than 500 percent since the first of the year to over 600,000 members, thanks in no small part to you telling your fellow poker enthusiasts to join our cause.”
He also announced that the group was in favour of two pieces of legislation currently making their way through the US House of Representatives, Barney Frank’s Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) 2007 and Robert Wexler’s Skill Games Protection Act.
“We are strongly supporting two of these bills, Congressman Barney Frank's HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, and Congressman Robert Wexler's HR 2610, the Skill Games Protection Act,” said D’Amato.
“In all, we have a lot of momentum but we still need your help.”
