Mazhar Nawab Wins Leg 6 of GUKPT in Newcastle

Mazhar Nawab is now second on the GUKPT leader board following his Leg 6 win of the GUKPT in Newcastle. He bested Darren Fuller (currently joint 11th overall) to the £76,000 cash prize. While UK players once faced relatively small pay-outs for their tournament efforts this has now changed, and an overlay from online poker room Blue Square boosted the prize pool. Bling is also in: Nawab received a Tutima watch and the £3,000 Grand Final buy-in as well.

The final table took over eleven hours to play out, and blinds were rolled back to allow for less pressured play. However, Nawab quickly crippled the chip leader and maintained his dominance of the table.

The heads-up game looked to be a foregone conclusion as Darren Fuller, who won £35,850 for his second place, was significantly behind in chips. However, Fuller held his own for over five hours until going all in for a Jh-Ad-6h-Ts-8h board having made a pair of jacks, with his Js 3h. But Nawab also had the jacks and his queen kicker had it covered.

The event drew 205 players and some notable pros, including GUKPT leaderboard no. 6, Dave Colclough., but the final line-up has a few less familiar names:

3rd Richard Trigg £24,600

4th Christine Ward £18,450

5th Jonathan Butters £14,350

6th Tony Horn £11,275

7th Adam Wilkinson £8,200

8th Simon Zach £6,150

9th David McGlen £5,125

Leg 7 of the GUKPT will be a three-day event at G-Casino in Luton from August 4th – 12th. Players are reminded that a strict dress-code applies.
