Oxford University in Online Casino Survey

The world's first multidisciplinary Internet institute based at a major university, the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), has announced the launch of a web-based survey of users of online gambling sites that will build an empirically anchored picture of the implications of various patterns of online gambling.

The study is being carried out with the assistance of other researchers at England’s Oxford University and has been jointly funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RIGT). It also has the support of the Remote Gambling Association (RGA) and the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), which represents British and European remote gambling operators.

OII said that the anonymous survey would ask people to complete a 20-minute online questionnaire with the collection organized so that respondents could not be traced.

The survey itself can be found at www.oxfordgamblingsurvey.org and the online gambling industry has also cooperated by providing links through a range of sites, from online poker and casinos to sports betting services.

“We would welcome your participation in this survey effort, whether or not you gamble online,” said a spokesperson for OII. “In fact, we hope to have a wide range of respondents, some of whom gamble frequently to those who never gamble on or off-line.”
