'Police' steal poker machines

A couple of men have stolen video poker machines from a petrol station in Dallas by impersonating police officers.

The two men fooled John LeBlanc, a forecourt attendant at Mobil petrol station in White Rock, when they turned up dressed as coppers with police paraphernalia, according to the Dallas Morning News

On July 22nd, 46-year-old Mr LeBlanc said he was serving customers when the phoney cops burst in and told him his video poker machines were illegal and they would have to confiscate them. Video poker machines are only illegal if they actually pay out cash.

"They started playing with my mind," Mr LeBlanc said. He explained that one of the men was wearing a T-shirt with the police logo on it and was kitted out with handcuffs and a radio.

The imposters demanded the manager's telephone number, to which Mr LeBlanc obliged. "I was stupid enough to let him use the telephone," he lamented. One of the men then pulled the telephone plug out of its socket while his partner-in-crime began hauling the machines toward their truck.

When it dawned on Mr LeBlanc that something was amiss, he tried to stop the criminals, and in response, they attempted to handcuff him. "I yanked my hands away and called the police," Mr. LeBlanc said. "I should have called the police much earlier."

By the time the police arrived, the two phoneys had escaped with the machines, although one has since been arrested.
