Poker for potholes petition launched

A man from California has been granted permission by the Secretary of State to distribute a petition to set up a government-run online poker website which would collect money to fix potholes in Californian roads.

According to the Register, Tony 'Tuff Fish' Sandstrom, has launched the 'Initiative for Potholes Repair Funded by A California State Owned Online Poker Site', which proposes to set up an online casino, which would donate 90 per cent of revenue to subsidise road repairs in California.

Tuff Fish has been told that the collection of 430,000 signatures by the end of the year would see the proposal put on the California ballot.

His proposal include over-21s residing in Californian counties being able to play as well as those of majority age living in other states where gambling is lawful. He says that games, limits, and buy-ins would be similar to those already existing in online and live poker games.

In addition, Mr Sandstrom says that both California's authorities and drivers would benefit from the passing of the initiative.

He says in a statement on his site: "I am just a guy who wants to play poker at home when I don’t feel like making an hour drive to a cardroom or casino. I am going to make a mighty effort to make safe, legal, and accessible online poker possible. At the same time this effort can be of great benefit to the drivers of the state of California."
