Prof wants poker strategies taught in schools

Harvard Law School professor Charles Nesson will be announcing the formation of the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society (GPSTS) on August 19th, which will see chapters set up at universities and secondary schools across the globe.

Professor Nesson hopes that these societies can teach a range of skills to young people, by using poker strategies as an educational tool. He believes that poker can be used to teach both basic life skills and strategic thinking that can be applied to geopolitical analysis, risk assessment, and money management.

At the State of Play conference, the professor will elaborate on the GPSTS's intention place chapters at prominent universities across the globe, although the first will be based at Harvard.

The GPSTS will present workshops on poker strategy to secondary schools and community centres as well as conducting seminars to explore poker as an educational game.

"Poker is one of the best metaphors for teaching life skills across a variety of disciplines," Professor Nesson commented.
