Tuesday 21st August 2007 Father beats son in UK poker showdown
It was a family affair at the final table of the National Poker League (NPL) UK Open Main Event, with the Hendon Mob's Peter Gould sat next to his son, Josh.
But UK poker pro Peter Gould was not taking any prisoners after having paid the £2,500 buy-in fee, he was not about to let sentimentality take over.
The field at the Loose Cannon Club in London consisted of 34 players, including Dave 'El Blondie' Colclough, Roland De 'Big Bad' Wolfe, Tony G and celebrity player Jennifer Tilly.
But having dispatched with these top poker aces, the final table saw Jeff Buffenbarger, Dieter Dijkstra, Patrik Selin, Darren Woods, Lee Watts, James Hart, Dan Carter and Jason Ho take their seats next to the Goulds.
Ironically, after some tough bullying from Jeff Buffenbarger, Josh made a come-back, only to be taken out by his own father. This ruthless dispatch put the youngster in fourth place and he won £8,500 in pocket money.
However, Gould Senior was not about to let Buffenbarger get away with his behaviour and promptly busted his fellow mobster who had to be satisfied with third place and £12,750.
The Head's up with Patrik Selin only lasted two hands, leaving Selin £21,250 of the prize pool while Peter Gould took home £34,000.
