Devilfish's marathon sex romps for poker preparation

Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott has said that he finds that "marathon sex sessions" give him enough preparation to spend long nights awake when poker games drag on into the small hours.

The Devilfish told the Independent: "I can make love for four or five hours. I like to get a woman and ring her out like a flannel."

However, he also admitted that if he is feeling tired he sometimes uses a hypnotic Paul McKenna tape to put him into a trance.

But poker ace Annie Duke told the newspaper that keeping fit is key to a good poker performance. She said: "For the most part, the top players tend to be people who work out a lot. Playing long hours for five weeks is exhausting. If your body is in good shape, your mind is less likely to falter."

Phil Hellmuth, meanwhile, claims that before a poker tourney in Wales, he went 36 hours without sleep, but then he has just been diagnosed with sleep apnoea. "I have been dealing with fatigue for many years," he confirmed.

Victoria Coren, winner of the European Poker Tour 2006, told the Independent: "There's something child-like about poker; about being able to stay up late. You're kept awake by adrenaline, the thrill, the risk."

She added that it was much more difficult trying to sleep after an exciting game than tryig to stay awake for the action.
