IGREA Gets Another Co-Sponsor

Another member of America’s Congress has agreed to co-sponsor Barney Frank's proposed Bill to legalize and regulate online gambling in the United States.

Democrat Robert Scott has agreed to support Frank’s House of Representatives Bill 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) 2007, which would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and establish a Federal regulatory and enforcement framework to license companies to accept bets and wagers online from individuals in the United States.

Congressman Scott is serving his eighth term for the State of Virginia and is on record as voting against UIGEA in October when it passed through the House of Representatives.

An influential player in Washington, Scott currently serves on the committees for the Budget, Education and Labor and the Judiciary along with the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties sub-committee. He is also a member of the Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security sub-committee.

Scott’s support now brings the list of supporters for the Bill to 36 with 218 votes needed for the Bill to pass through the House of Representatives.

In other news from Washington, Robert Wexler’s proposed Skill Game Protection Act has gained another supporter in the House of Representatives with the announcement that New York Democrat Eliot Engel has agreed to co-sponsor the legislation.

The Skill Game Protection Act seeks an exemption in UIGEA for skill games such as poker and only had one sponsor when it was first introduced by the Florida Democrat in June.

Engel voted against the UIGEA last year and his support brings the total number of members co-sponsoring the Bill to twelve.
