In America, the popularity of online poker has come together with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) with a new site that allows players to compete against their favourite drivers.
With VLPClub.net, players can compete legally with the likes of racing drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr, Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler and Jamie McMurray for prizes including signed memorabilia. Started by Earnhardt and Sadler and based in the southern American state of North Carolina, this site will see fans playing Texas Hold ‘Em for free or for a monthly fee.
“VLPClub.net is the first club of its kind and allows race fans the opportunity to interact together, play games, win prizes and give its members direct access to the hottest drivers in professional motor sports,” read a press announcement from the website.
Formed in 1948, NASCAR is the largest sanctioning body of motorsports in the US with over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, Canada and Mexico. With roots as regional entertainment in the southeastern states, NASCAR has grown to become the second most popular professional sport in terms of television ratings inside the US, ranking behind only the National Fooyball League (NFL). It holds 17 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the US and has an estimated 75 million fans that purchase over three billion dollars in annual licensed product sales.
