The Holdem 100 Attracts Big Stars to Annual Charity Event

The twelfth annual Holdem 100 poker event was ambushed by some of poker’s biggest names who had stopped off before the start of the EPT London event to help raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Fund. Guest of honour Gavin Griffith led the pros into the Loose Cannon Club in London, along with Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Noah Boerken and Katja Thater.

Other top named players such as the hyper-aggressive Dario Minieri, EPT founder John Duthie and 2006 EPT London winner Victoria Coren also helped sweeten the prize pot, with half of all the buy-ins going direct to the charity. If the chance to play with these guys wasn’t enough, Poker Stars also added a £5,200 package for the winner, making the constant parting of cash in the £50 rebuy even more pleasurable.

The total of 78 runners managed to raise over £8,000 for the charity, and tournament winner was none other than Hevad Khan, who finished 6th in this year’s WSOP and joined Team Poker Stars a couple of weeks back. Hevad won £1,500 and the EPT package, which we are sure ranks well up there with his $956,243 cash at The Big One. The Holdem 100 was expertly run by one of London’s finest Tournament Directors in Roy Houghton, and the event provides a chance for us poker players to show support for a great cause, as well as mingle with some of the pros. All we can say is ‘roll on the 2008 edition!’
