'The Lebanese are good' - Joseph Mouawad wins EPT London

Fresh after the first World Series of Poker held outside of Las Vegas, London enjoyed another major tournament when the European Poker Tour came to town for the second event in this season’s schedule. This time it was Joseph Mouawad’s turn to make history by becoming the first Lebanese poker player to win a major poker tournament after what turned out to be a brisk final table at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino.

Mouawad, who won his seat at the event through an online satellite, overcame a cosmopolitan final table to replace Vicky Coren as the current EPT London Champion. English hopes of a repeat win on home soil were dashed when Ian Cox bust out in 8th position and sole remaining compatriot Paul Mendes followed swiftly after in 7th.

That left six players representing five different countries to battle for the title and the �611,250 first prize, but the players swiftly fell, leaving Germany’s Florian Langmann and Mouawad as the last men standing. After just an hour of heads-up play, all of the money went into the middle after Mouawad flopped top pair to Langmann’s second pair on a Q 9 6 board. The Queen on the turn sealed the deal, sending Mouawad onto the list winners on the EPT and his bank balance upwards.
