Israeli wins Asian Poker tourney

Ziv Bacher has been declared the winner of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), according to the Manila Standard Today.

The 25-year-old Israeli scooped $139,872 for his victory plus a glass trophy after looking a likely champion right from the start. It was the youngster's biggest prize win in poker so far in his career.

APPT president Jeffrey Haas said: "The tournament already produced two young champions. This only proved that seasoned players have to double their efforts to catch up with their young counterparts. We expect to host many young but top calibre players like Ziv."

He added that he expected a flood of players from the Asia Pacific region to participate in the Grand Finale of the tour in Sydney in December.

"Asian players are good and very skilful," Mr Haas said. "They only need exposure to develop their talents and skills. We're hoping that Asian players, especially Filipinos would make a name in this mind sport at the soonest possible time."

Indeed, three of the four top finishing players were locals, with Sid Kim pocketing $48,081 for a third place finish.

Meanwhile Australian Jozef Berec, another young player could not bear Bachar at the Head's Up stage, so he claimed second place, losing when the Israeli boldly staked all of his 130,000 chips.
