Chefs compete in Food Poker

BBC Two is to get a new show called Food Poker, which mixes cookery with the game of cards and will air on the daytime schedule later this year.

A team of top chefs will compete in a recipe competition "where culinary reputations are put on the line with every turn of the card" the press release said.

The release does not make it clear how exactly the game will play out, as the series has only just been commissioned, but it promises to include all the chance, skill and the ability to bluff that one would expect from a poker game, with chefs playing for ingredients rather than chips to make one savoury and one sweet dish.

After winning a set of ingredients, chefs will have a certain time to create their gourmet meals, which will then be blind tasted by a member of the studio audience.

The announcement adds that another show called Making A Meal Of It will join BBC One as part of a new wave of culinary programming..

Jay Hunt, controller of BBC daytime and early peak programming, said: "Food Poker and Making A Meal Of It build on the huge success of programmes like Great British Menu in extending the range and ambition of our food shows."

No chefs are confirmed as yet, but Optomen will create the show under the executive production of Ben Adler.
