Florida Plays for Charity

ITWomen, a Florida organization dedicated to the advancement and development of women in technology, has announced the details of its fourth annual CIO Celebrity Poker Tournament and Casino Night to help raise money for scholarships.

Sponsored by Deloitte, Protiviti, Veracity Management Group, Campus Management, Qualcomm and AutoNation, the event is scheduled for November 15 at the Sheraton in the city of Ft Lauderdale near Miami with prizes including a cruise from Norwegian Cruise Line and a watch from Montica Jewelry.

Other prizes will include certificates for day spas, romantic dinners and gift baskets with all participants having the chance to network and contribute to giving deserving young women an opportunity at a rewarding future in technology.

The buy-in for the Texas Hold’em main event table is $2,500 but there will also be play at other tables for a general admission price.

The goal of the event is to raise more than $50,000 in scholarship money to be awarded to twelve high school graduating women pursuing careers in technology, a tradition that ITWomen has maintained for the past three years.

Last year’s event raised close to $30,000 thanks to the participation of some of southern Florida’s top companies including Carnival Cruise Lines, Citrix Systems, Cordis, Burger King, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Stiefel Laboratories.

“The goal of our efforts is to minimize the gender gap within the technology field by promoting professional education and training for women,” said Victoria Usherenko, President for ITWomen.

“Our south Florida community recognises the need to continue to develop our workforce in this area and we’ve received enormous support from the private and public sectors to continue to provide these opportunities for continuing education.”
