Party Poker – Up for Sale?

Still one of the major league online poker rooms, Party Poker is rumoured to be looking for buyers should the company be put on the market. The speculation began after a report published recently in the Financial Times which suggested that Party Gaming was openly seeking offers from US casino groups. The CEO of Party Gaming, Mitch Garber, confirmed that the company would be interested in speaking to interested parties about a potential sale, but refused to comment on whether any negotiations are already underway.

The move isn’t a massive shock to those in the industry, with many suspecting this is a move Party Gaming has been preparing for over the last twelve months. What is interesting is that the Times newspaper goes on to name both the Bellagio and the Mirage as potential suitors, which would raise interesting questions about the operation of the group from within the US. Some feel that if the purchase is made by one of the major Vegas casino-groups it would signal a possibility of legalisation and regulation of online poker in America.

Party Poker’s online player base took a massive dent with the passing of the UIGEA, but has shown signs of steady recovery since.
