Tuesday 16th October 2007 Late Night Poker returns to UK screens
It has been announced that the TV show popular with poker fans everywhere, Late Night Poker, will return to Channel 4 early next year, using its original format.
Some 49 players will pass through seven heats in order to try to scoop some of the 2007 prize pool of $335,000. They will need to put up a buy-in fee of $5,000, but the overall winner will take home $125,000.
Some big names have already been confirmed to participate in the show, which starts filming towards the end of October in Cardiff.
After beginning in 1999 with a ground-breaking format, which showed players' holecards using under-the-table cameras, the format changed over recent years, but most poker fans will welcome back the original.
Rob Thomas, producer of Late Night Poker for production company Presentable, said: "The convention for every poker show these days is to show all the players' cards as soon as they enter a pot. When Late Night Poker started, the style was very different. Players' cards were revealed at appropriate moments during the hand to create more drama as the hand progressed.
"Twice in each show we will see the hand from one player's perspective. We'll only see their particular holecards, which gives the viewer a different perspective as the hand develops. TV poker is about creating drama and tension, and in these instances, the commentators will have great fun guessing what the opponent might be holding, and then there's the excitement of the 'reveal' moment at the end of the hand. We believe this will enhance the viewer’s enjoyment."
Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott and members of the Hendon Mob have already signed up as well as Padraig Parkinson, Jamie Gold and WSOP Europe Main Event winner Annette Obrestad as a newcomer.
