Poker buffs compete in Battle of the Mags

One British poker fan and two Irish poker buffs will participate in the Battle of the Mags Grand Final, a competition to find out which European poker publication has the most clued-up readers.

The UK's Tina Walker will represent Total Poker at the final table while avid readers of Poker Europa and Poker Pro Europe, the two Irishmen, Ronan McLughlin and John Donnelly will showcase their favourite poker reads, respectively.

They will be joined by Antepost fan Grzegorz Swieboda and Cardplayer reader Krzysztof Zajac, both from Poland as well as Flush devotee Daniel Ernstberger of Germany.

Gambling Online Magazine will be represented by Romanian Farcus Radu and Online Gambler will be gunning for its representative, Lars Henrik Buschmann Nielsen from Denmark.

The Grand Final of the Battle of the Mags will take place in London on November 8th and the overall winner will take the entire prize pool as well as free entry to the 2008 Irish Open and two European Poker Tour circuit events of their choice.

Sponsors Paddy Power said: "Each of the online tournaments attracted large fields of high quality players and it would not surprise me at all if the Battle of the Mags champion went on to a huge payday at either the Irish Open or the EPT.

"It is obvious from the standard of play we have seen that the players have gained a real expertise in the game and learnt from the excellent strategic advice they read in their favourite magazines."

TV cameras will catch all the action at the final table, which will be broadcast on Sky TV Channel 843 on December 14th.
