Ooo Arr - Traktor Poker Evolves

China’s traditional folk game, Traktor Poker, also known as Tuo La Ji, has crowned its first Provincial Champions this week in Lanzhou, Gansu Province after the inaugural China National Traktor Poker Tour.

The tournament welcomed the area’s best players and was sanctioned by the China Leisure Sports Administrative Center (CLSAC), the national sports federation that governs leisure sports under the China State Sports Administration, and sponsored by World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises, the exclusive marketing partner of the Tour.

The Sports Center in Lanzhou was filled with 418 competitors battling it out over three days to determine the teams that will represent Gansu Province in the National Tour Grand Final.

“October 12 will be remembered as a historic day for poker in China as the beloved folk game of Traktor poker has been elevated to the position of an official national sport,” said Xing Xiao Quan, Secretary General for the CLSAC.

The tournament is to be the first of 15 regional preliminary events to be held each weekend throughout China from now until April with play based on a team structure where teams in each tour city compete to qualify for the Grand Final.

“We are proud to recognise these first Provincial Champions,” said Peter Hughes, Chief Operating Officer of the WPT Enterprises. “The Gansu tournament has demonstrated that this innovative concept can be successfully executed in China.”

“This inaugural event is a strong sign of the success we anticipate for this Tour. Traktor Poker is a tradition and sport rich with history and will only grow and build momentum from here.”
