Richard Lee Forfeits $2.2m in Plea Agreement

Richard Lee, one of the 2006 Main Event finalists, agreed to forfeit $2.2m as part of a plea agreement with San Antonio prosecutors. As reported earlier in the month, Lee and four other men had been charged with promoting an illegal gambling operation which prosecutors alleged was run from Lee’s home. Lee’s plea agreement means that the men will not serve any time in exchange for not contesting the misdemeanour charges.

Lee finished sixth in the 2006 WSOP Championship after having his pocket Jacks beaten by Jamie Gold’s pocket Queens. Only weeks after Lee’s $2.8m payday, his property was raided after months of investigations which, according to a police spokesperson, identified Lee’s property as the ‘nerve centre’ of the operation.

Following the plea agreement, Richard Lee said, “I’m just glad it’s over with.” When asked about his plans for the future, he replied, “I guessed I just got to get out to Las Vegas and win a poker tournament.”

The judge sentenced each of the men to 30 days of deferred adjudication, and fined them $2,000 each plus $94 each in court costs. I would have thought the $2.2m covered that myself…
