Monday 22nd October 2007 Bosses lay out big bucks for poker tourney
This week the first event of the Executive Poker Tour takes place at the Trump Taj Mahal casino, with businessmen buying in for $100,000 in a special game where over $1 million will be on the table.
Stakes will be high as 100 per cent of the buy-in amount will be put into the prize pool and a number of high-rolling executives who have already placed high in other top poker tournaments have confirmed that they will play in the No Limit event.
Lee Childs, from Virginia, has already confirmed and will be fierce competition, having finished 7th in this year's World Series Of Poker (WSOP).
Rhett Butler will also be recognisable name to poker followers, having finished fifth at the 2006 WSOP and grossed over $3.3 million in lifetime poker tournament winnings.
But the real force to be reckoned with will be Steve Dannenmann, who came second in the 2005 WSOP Main Event, losing out only to the mighty Joe Hachem. He has cashed in many tournaments before and since and during the World Poker Tour he placed 33rd.
"We're expecting a terrific mix of amateur poker players as well as many executives who desire to support our organization," said Rick Rahim, Executive Poker Tour founder.
Members of the public will be allowed to attend the event live, but those who can't make it to Atlantic City will be able to watch it on TV at a later date.
But it's not all tough poker sharks and moneygrabbers at this particular tournament, as charitable sorts will also be taking part. The entry fees to the tourney will go to Project Lifesaver Foundation, an organisation that provides tracking systems for people with Alzheimer's, Downs Syndrome, autism, mental handicaps, and brain injuries, so their families can find them if they get lost and confused.
