Tuesday 23rd October 2007 Stars come out for charity poker night
A host of celebrities from stage and screen turned out for the inaugural Vail Hold 'Em Poker Event for Your Cause, including singer Kelis, actress Shannon Elizabeth and Heroes star James Kyson Lee.
The event saw its debut last week, but is now set to take place every year, with the premise being that celebrities and poker buffs compete to win $100,000, which won't go to line their own pockets but will be donated to their charity of choice.
Best known on this side of the Atlantic for starring in teen comedy Saved By the Bell as Slater, actor Mario Lopez, hosted the event last week, which raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for various charities.
The only celebrity poker face to make it to the final table was Chris Masterson, who played the eldest brother, Francis in Malcolm in the Middle, and although his brother Danny - of That 70s Show fame - had exited the competition he coached his sibling from the sidelines.
Joey Fatone, Robert Iler and Boyz II Men were also present to watch as Wyclef Jean rocked the Altman Building in New York with a megamix of his hits plus a cover version of La Bamba.
After, the poker champion was decided, charity auctions raised yet more funds for good causes, with an Alex Rodriquez 500 baseball bat fetching $15,000.
