Friday 26th October 2007 Cincinnati kids leaving Las Vegas richer
This week saw the final winner of the Poker Bowl Las Vegas Tournament crowned, with Cincinnati being declared top of the flops out of the 25 US cities competing.
The $8,000 buy-in tournament kicked off on October 20th, with 150 players in teams of six, including celebrities such as Donnie Wahlberg, Jennifer Tilly and Danny Masterson.
Competing for the national title and a scoop of the $1,000,000 prize pool, the eventual victors of the knock-out tourney were named as Cincinnati Full House, a bunch of self-confessed poker amateurs led by poker legend Steve Dannemann. Teams Detroit, headed by Kathy Liebert, St Louis, Hollywood and the New Jersey XFactors featuring Eric 'Rizen' Lynch and Jon 'PearlJammer' all advanced to the final table with players remaining to join the Cincinnati crew.
Cincinnati was represented in seats four and nine by Steve Kingsley and Vinny Napolitano and the team showed the loudest vocal support from the off. However, Steve Kingsley was the second player to exit the table, leaving Napolitano, who was behind on chips, it all to do.
Scotty Nguyen of team Detroit was taking out the other teams with aplomb, but some smart play by the Cincinnati kid put a stop to his scourge of the other cities and Napolitano eliminated the 'Prince of Poker' in third place.
With a chip count of $225,000 to Allan Kessler of St Louis' $85,000 stack, Napolitano open-shoved with an Ace and a King. Kessler had a King and Jack, put his chips in the centre of the table and called, but to his dismay Cincinnati had the better hand.
Cincinnati's Ari Goldstein, Chris Manzo, Steve Kingsley, Steve Dannenmann, Steve Zoine and of course Vinny Napolitano bagged $600,000 for their teamwork.
The tournament will premiere on Fox Sports on January 26th 2008, with six more one-hour episodes to follow.
