Monday 29th October 2007 More Irish eyes on poker prize
Yet more celebrities from the sporting world have confirmed that they will participate in the Simon Poker Charity Tournament in Dublin including reigning World Snooker Champion John Higgins and Republic of Ireland footballer Tony Cascarino.
Not only that, but the charity pot is set to reach 100,000 euros after a raft of support from the European poker community, including online casinos and poker magazines.
There will be tension amid the charity on November 3rd at the RDS, as Higgins will join rivals and former snooker world champions Steve Davis and Dublin native Ken Doherty in a bid to win the charity event.
Meanwhile, Bruce Martin, representative of Littlewoods, which is backing Cascarino's participation in the event, said: "The only problem we have is that Big Cas will be at the final table when it takes place. However if that is the case we'll still donate the full entry fee to the charity."
Simon Poker Day will be part of the European Poker Tour Dublin, with one-third of the 300 euro buy-in, donated directly to the homeless charity with a special auction set to raise even more.
Padraig Parkinson, one of the organisers of the event, said: "We have a real headache now: how do we maximize the value of the donations? I'm confident the players in Dublin won't let us down as we aim for our target of 100,000 euros."
Meanwhile 'Mad' Marty Wilson will ensure that the entertainment will not be lacking, as he again hosts his zany games 'Win with Wilson' and 'Play your Cards Right'.
Last year's event generated just under 50,000 euros to help the homeless charity and was won by former World Champion Noel Furlong.
