Russia Welcomes Poker Freezeout

November 24th will see the inaugural poker championships in Russia, to be organised by the Russian Sports Poker Federation (RSPF). The event will consist of three tournaments in as many days, with the highlight being the �3,150 buy-in No Limit Hold’em freezeout on the 26th. The Championships are being played just before the Moscow Millions event, making this the busiest week of poker ever to hit Russia.

Earlier in the year the Russian Federal Agency of Physical Culture and Sports declared that poker tournaments sanctioned by them would be made official sporting competitions. The decision was a landmark for the RSPF as it allowed the poker industry to grow despite the state downsizing the rest of the gambling industry. The event still suffered from problems in its realisation though, and the event is actually taking place a full month later than originally intended.

Following on from the RSPF event is the Moscow Millions itself, which culminates in a $10,500 buy-in event. The management company for the event is expecting at least 50 Russian players to enter the event, many of them through satellites being hosted in the preceding weeks, and the event will be played on 28th & 29th November. The winner of the Moscow Millions event will be crowned Russia’s National Poker Champion and RSPF Grand Champion of Russia.
