Final closes in for Great British Poker

The UK's finest poker players are set to battle for glory this week as the Great British Poker Tour comes to an end with a four-day grand final in Bristol.

The Gala-sponsored event will see some of the biggest names in British poker throw their chips into the pot in a bid to win a piece of the £500,000 prize pool and the title of 2007 Great British Poker champion.

The likes of Roland de Wolfe, Ram Vaswani, Barney Boatman and Joe Beevers are expected to be joined by the best amateurs, free entry to other major tournaments also added to the cash prize.

The final, which will take place in the Gala Casino Harbourside in Bristol, marks the culmination of a tour that has staged tournaments in Nottingham, Bournmouth, Leeds and Edinburgh.

Commenting on this year's competition, the tournament director Thomas Kremser said that he had been impressed by the standard of play.

"So far in the GBPT we've seen some really high standards of poker from local amateurs holding their own against the UK and European pro players," he said.

"It'll be a fascinating contest to see what drama will unfold with these star names of world poker in the frame."
