Wednesday 7th November 2007 X Factor Wagers Popular at Betting Exchange
Welsh baritone Rhydian, a classical singer who sings popular opera similar to Russell Watson and Il Divo, is favoured by betting exchange, Betfair.com, to win X Factor season four.
However, ever since she belted out a couple of ballads in her opening performances, it’s been obvious that Niki Evans would be a serious contender. Although she’s been called “talented cannon-fodder with great big hair“, she’s expected to go head-to-head with Rhydian till the end.
Betfair is the world's leading betting exchange, a concept it pioneered. All bets on Betfair are placed there by users who either want to bet for a selection or outcome in the normal way (back), or bet against a selection or outcome (lay). Bets are matched between people with opposing views. In addition to the exchange Betfair has an established games portfolio, including Betfair Poker, Betfair Casino and a number of exchange-enabled games.
Betfair is a licensed bookmaker in the UK. It also has licences in Australia, Malta, Austria and Germany.
Middle-aged and soulful, Niki has a powerful voice and has been compared with Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She has what it takes – if she could just stop crying and going on and on about her dad she could take the prize.
Emily’s undignified exit after video clips of her attacking a teenage girl emerged hasn’t affected the outright betting as she was at long odds to win the show.
Rhydian has been a big mover in the X Factor betting market and is currently the favourite at 2.74 (7/4) at Betfair. But many feel Niki is still the best bet to win Xfactor and she can now be backed at 4.6 (7/2) at Betfair.
Early favourites along with now-evicted boy band Futureproof, Simon Cowell’s Hope have come dangerously close to elimination recently. Even after they almost became the third act to leave the competition, Hope is now being offered at 1.47 (40/85) with Betfair.com. They remain popular with punters and are third in the public voting on the contest. Same difference is 2.85 (15/8) in the Best Group category.
