Great British Poker Tour Final Mobbed

They might have sent over their finest to take on the Brits, but the final table of the Great British Poker Tour was a distinctly British affair. The final table consisted of two of the Hendon Mob – Joe ‘The Elegance’ Beevers and Barney Boatman, along with long-respected pros Neil ‘Bad Beat’ Channing and Charalambos Xanthos. Leading them all though was Roland De Wolfe, who was considered favourite amongst a tough table. It turned out to be a ‘Mob Affair’ though, with Beevers winning and Boatman finishing in third.

The final table didn’t start well for De Wolfe. Folded around to Rob Akery in the SB, the bet was raised up to 30,000. Roland look down at KQ and pushed all in, only to be insta-called by Akery’s pocket Aces. The door card might well have been a King, but the rest of the board bricked out, seeing Wolfe ship 149,000 to Akery.

Beevers got most of his chips in a massive pot with Manuel Palanca, who pushed all in against the opening raise from Joe. Beevers called with QQ, Palanca tabled AKs, and The Elegance certainly showed he can charm the ladies after making quads.

From there it was a Hendon affair, with Boatman, Akery and Beevers making it to the last three. It wasn’t to be a Hendon heads-up though, with Boatman going out in third. Eventually it was Beever’s T-5 flopping two pair against Akery’s flush draw which proved key. The diamond hit on the river making Akery’s flush, but it was the Td, making Beevers a boat and GBPT Champion.
