Nicholas Cage to Play Amarillo Slim

Thomas Austin Preston, Jr, or Amarillo Slim to you and I, has often been labelled as the first celebrity of poker. His fame is about to be spread further after it was revealed that a film about his life is in development, with Nicholas Cage as the lead man.

No start date for the filming of “Amarillo Slim” has been set as yet, although it has been confirmed that parts of the film will be shot in Texas.

Braxton Pope, the project producer, commented, “Slim has led a picaresque life and is a true American original, and the breadth of his experiences requires a fair amount of research. Slim will have a lot of input but he also understands that filmmakers are in the business of crafting stories and that this isn't a documentary.”

Pope went on to confirm that Cage is expected to play the legendary gambler. After meeting Cage at the actor’s home in Los Angeles, Preston, 78, was convinced Cage was the man for the job.

'We hit it off good. ... We've become buddies,' Preston said.

Which I think is poker parlance for “I’ve convinced Cage to play for money, and I am hammering him routinely whilst keeping him smiling.”
