Tuesday 13th November 2007 Sinh Nguyen cruises WSOP tournament
Vietnamese Sinh Nguyen absolutely stole the show at Harvey's Casino-Resort, when he personally eliminated six out of eight players at final table of the $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Texas Hold'Em poker tournament at Harvey Lake Tahoe to win top prize on Monday.
Bagging $33,228 for his win at the event on the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) circuit, the 42-year-old has expressed interest in playing in more games on the tour.
Despite the fact that it was his first ever final table, he made it there as chip leader and made the other players look like amateurs as they bowed out from the action one by one. Going into the final table, Nguyen dispatched Dan Stephens on a bad beat, Joshua Roberts who had a weak hand and virgin to poker tournaments Bob Bone who failed to make a pair.
Stuart Spears, who placed in the money at this year's WSOP Main Event, was next to exit at Sinh's hands, earning $5,000 less than his previous victory brought in.
Ron Matsuura, who has been the only player to reach two final table at this tournament, was next to go followed by Renea Mahaffey, the first female on the final table in an open event at this year's Lake Tahoe series. JT Anderson took third place, earning him $13,380 and that left only Thomas Hover to try his luck against the rampant Nguyen.
But when Hover moved all-in with K-9 to Nguyen's K-7, both players flopped a king pnly for the Vietnamese player to catch a 7 on the river. Despite the fact that Hover has over $150,000 in poker winnings and has reached nearly a dozen final tables, it was the newcomer's day and Hover had to settle for $19,462 and second place.
