Ladies Night at the Irish Open

Dublin-based gambling giant Paddy Power has announced that it is to sponsor the Irish Open Ladies side event at next year’s Irish Open poker tournament.

The female event will take place on March 22 and is to take the form of a no-limit Texas Hold’em Freezeout competition with a buy-in of $437 to ensure good attendance.

'I am very excited about it and I have always felt something of a personal compunction to help bring more women into the game,” said Nikki Newman, Head Of Poker for Paddy Power.

“Colette Doherty, Irene Tier and Jenny Heggerty showed us just how much power there is in the Irish ladies game. So what better backdrop could there be for a ladies poker event than the Irish Open itself.'

The Irish Open festival begins on March 19 with a satellite followed the next day by the main event at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, which is to have a guaranteed prize pool of over $4.3 million.
