Cabbie shows best poker knowledge

John Donnelly, a hackney cab driver from County Kildare, has won the Battle of the Mags as a representative for Poker Pro Europe.

For his win, the Irish cabbie bags best poker mag bragging rights and seats at the Irish Open and European Poker Tour events in Prague and Copenhagen worth £14,000.

After seven hours of intense play Donnelly demonstrated better poker knowledge than Cardplayer reader Krzysztof Zajac, beating the economics student from the University of Katowice in a dramatic Head's Up showdown.

Donnelly, who has only ever been in the audience of the Irish Open, seemed thrilled of the prospect of playing in the popular poker tournament. "It is a dream to play at the Irish Open," he said. "I can't wait to pit my wits against some of the biggest names in world poker!"

Battle of the Mags saw a varied field with everyone from an accountant to a housewife to a factory worker to a civil servant as well as an oil tanker driver taking their places at the final table to prove their favourite poker mag was the best.

The Grand Final will premiere on Sky channel 843 on December 14th.
