Charity Poker Event Investigated

In America, investigators in the western state of Colorado are looking into the legality of a charity poker event held over the weekend.

Held in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, the event was advertised as a fundraiser for fallen Colorado State Patrol officers Zach Templeton and Mark Dold and recovering officer Scott Hinshaw who were all involved in accidents last month.

However, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stated that it is looking into the legality of the tournament as it took money in the form of donations. They believe that there may have been the possibility that people were being charged to play with the expectation of prizes.

'There's very likely an illegal gaming operation going on,' said Lance Clem, Spokesperson for the CBI.

'When they are engaged in that and they are charged to play then it becomes an illegal poker operation.'

Clem also stated that officials were also looking into the unauthorised use of the Colorado State Patrol logo.

Organisers stated that the event was not against the law as players were not required to make a donation in order to take part and someone could play for free and still win prizes.

Local police officers that participated in the event agreed and stated that they had checked the legality of the format before the tournament started.

'We did check the legality of this beforehand with the CBI and Colorado Division of Gaming and everything is above board,' said Marek Rybkowski, a Denver police officer.
