Macau sees famous poker faces

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) opens on the Chinese island of Macau this Thursday with many familiar poker players set to attend.

Playing host to the first No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament held in Macau is the luxury Grand Waldo Casino, where poker faces will pit their wits against each other over six days.

This is the first time ever that poker will be played live in the People's Republic of China and the event is part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).

To enter the Main Event, players will have to buy in for $2,500, but with high rollers and World Series Of Poker (WSOP) winners taking part, that is a small drop in their ocean of poker winnings.

Joe Hachem, who won the 2005 WSOP Main Event, is taking part and this year's champion Jerry Yang will also be laying his cards on the table for a possible dip into the prize pool of $600,000.

"The Asia Pacific Poker Tour is honoured to be bringing the sport of tournament poker to Macau", said Jeffrey Haas, president of the APPT.

"Macau is already the world's gaming capital and this historic event diversifies its global attraction by including the APPT's unique brand of poker tourism. It's a significant step forward, not only for the APPT, but for the growth of poker in Asia," he added.
