Sportingbet’s Online Backgammon Merger

Leading UK online gambling group Sportingbet has combined its existing backgammon players with those of GameAccount Network to take advantage of the critical mass of player liquidity provided by other online sportsbook, casino and poker operators.

'This move combines all our backgammon players in one place,” said Paul Roberts, Group Director of Products for Sportingbet.

“GameAccount offers browser-based backgammon software with a particular strength in cash games, tournaments and localisation for European markets. This deal gives our players access to one of the largest backgammon communities in Europe equipped with tournaments and fits with our strategy of consolidating our supplier base to a smaller number of strategic partners, thus providing our customers with the best possible experience.'

Sportingbet stated that its players would enjoy the benefits of GameAccount's 2007 software upgrades that include navigation enhancements, more information for tournament players and side games. Players will also be able to find and register for tournaments by simply navigating between game tables.

Recreational players will be able to launch side games from the games lobby without missing any of the action for the first time along with ‘moneyplay’ cash games and downloadable move histories for more sophisticated players.

'Our continued focus on backgammon is delivering results with excellent yields per active player day,” said Dermot Smurfit, Chief Operating Officer for GameAccount.

“Our network-wide tournaments allow all licensees to offer better-value tournaments compared to any stand-alone operator.”
