Poker legend TJ Cloutier Triumphs In Tulsa

Professional poker player Thomas James ‘TJ’ Cloutier won his 60th major tournament on Tuesday when he triumphed at the Scotty Nguyen Poker Challenge IV in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cloutier is a legend of the game and the Texas hold 'em starting hand of a Jack-nine of Clubs is named in his honour because of flopping three straight flushes in one year with the hand. He was inducted into the Poker Hall Of Fame in 2006 at the age of 67 and has won six World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. He is also the only person in WSOP history to win all three types of Omaha event.

He learned how to play poker while serving in the US Army and went on to play football in the Canadian Football League before taking part in poker games regularly while working on Texas oil rigs.

Cloutier won $240,560 at the event this week beating out other professional players Scotty Nguyen, Bill Edler and Gavin Smith at the final table and took his career winnings past the nine million dollar mark.

Cloutier's professional career started in 1983 when he won $43,000 at his first poker tournament and has stretched over three decades. He is tied with Phil Hellmuth for the most all-time WSOP final table finishes at 39 and saw his largest career cash come at the 2000 WSOP Main Event for $896,500.
