Monday 26th November 2007 Unknown takes Asia Pacific poker title
Dinh Le, a relatively unknown poker player, has emerged as victor following the climax of the 2007 Pokerstars Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) this weekend.
The event, held at the Grand Waldo Hotel in Macau, was the first major poker tournament to be held within the people's republic of China, and attracted 352 competitors, including world stars such as Joe Hachem, Bertrand Grospellier, Liz Lieu and Isabelle Mercier.
Yet it was Dinh Le who won the $2,500 freeze out event, winning a first prize jackpot of $225,000 (£109,000), following a grueling eight and a half hour final table on the third day.
Ivan Tan came in second place, receiving a cheque worth $130,000 (£63,000) for his troubles.
Meanwhile, a special high rollers contest is taking place in Macau to mark the end of the APPT, with a buy in of $15,000 (£7,200) and a first prize of $370,000 (£180,000).
John Juanda, Isabelle Mercier, Barry Greensteen, Scotty Nguyen, Kirk Morrison and Jeff Lisandro have all entered the running.
