Crowe joins charity poker cast

Academy award winning actor Russell Crowe is set to join an Australian poker tournament at the end of the month, aimed at raising money for charity.

The Aussie actor, who has starred in memorable films such as Gladiator and American Gangster, will compete against Glenn Robbins, Livinia Nixon, Nathan Buckley, Fifi Box and Dave Hughes on Friday November 30th at the Crown, Melbourne.

The tournament will be the largest charity poker event ever held in Australia and will also attract the likes of former World Series of Poker champion Joe Hachem.

Proceeds from the tournament, which has buy-in of nearly £500, will be donated to The Shane Warne Foundation. The charity, set up by the Australian cricketing legend in 2000, works to help underprivileged children suffering from a number of illnesses.

Special prizes will also be auctioned off during the event, most notably a small cameo role in "Wolverine", a spin-off film from the successful "X-Men" franchise starring Hugh Jackman.
