Friday 30th November 2007 Poker memoir to be published
Canongate has just announced that it will publish poker player and writer Victoria Coren's memoir, entitled For Richer For Poorer.
The newspaper columnist, who was the first ever woman to win £500,000 on the European Poker Tour after winning the Main Event, has arranged to sell the rights for her novel to publishers Canongate after a fierce bidding war with rivals Viking.
Canongate's Nick Davies said that a six-figure sum was agreed for global rights on the book.
Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown mediated the sale and described the poker memoir as "funny, moving [and] honest".
Coren is a well-repected poker expert and has made television appearances on Sky Sports' William Hill Poker Grand Prix II.
Specialising in Texas Hold'em poker, she is often to be seen practicing her skills at the Victoria Casino on London's Edgware Road.
Poker fans will, however, have to wait until spring 2009 for the book to be published.
