Wednesday 5th December 2007 Preliminary Events at Five Diamond Classic Roll On
Two more of the preliminary events at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic have been decided at the Bellagio, Las Vegas.
Event 4 was a $3,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament which drew 231 players and generated a prize pool in excess of $670,000.
The heads up class between Hooman Nikzad and Huican Qiao went to Nikzad, winning the title and $263,785. Amongst the big names that cashed the event were Amnon Filippi in fifth for $29,100 and Courtney Harrington in 18th. Harrington had earlier cashed in Event 1, coming fifth in that event for $26,450.
Event 5 was also a No-Limit Hold’em tournament, with a higher buy in of $5,000. This didn’t stop 197 players buying in, thus creating the biggest prize pool so far - $955,450. The event also drew a number of recognisable faces, with those who cashed including Shannon Shorr (third place for $102,295), Farzad Bonyadi (fifth for $41,850), Roy Winston (10th, $11,160) and Kathy Liebert who cashed for $9,300 with her eighteenth place finish.
The winner was Neal Wang, who beat Michael Casterella heads-up. Wang took home a cheque for $305,715 for his efforts, with Casterella getting $268,455.
