Australian Wins APPT High Rollers Tournament

Australian professional player Eric Assadourian won the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) $15,000 Buy-In High Rollers Tournament last week after outlasting 63 other hopefuls and took home over $360,000.

Many top poker players in China for the PokerStars APPT lingered for the contest but it was the relatively unknown 28-year-old Assadourian who came from behind at the final table to capture the inaugural title at the Grand Waldo Hotel And Casino.

By the end of the first day, the field in Macau had been thinned to just eight final table players led by Australian professional player Emad Tahtouh and Hong Kong’s David Paul Steicke.

Sydney native Assadourian grabbed the attention of the other players when he knocked out American John Juanda in sixth place. He then outlasted the favoured Tahtouh and Tony Ng before moving into three-handed play with Sweden’s Bo Sehlstedt and Steike.

Steike was soon beaten by Sehlstedt to finish in third place and take home $110,592 while the Swede’s second place finish saw him receive $184,320 for his efforts.

In the final heads-up place, Assadourian had over four times the chips held by his opponent but Sehlstedt made a game of it and doubled through several times after losing an initial big pot. However, after just over 30 hands, Assadourian triumphed to collect $368,640.
